“The story of Moonlight at Monterey Bay will embrace you with its power. This is a remarkable clean romance novel about being honest in love, no matter the consequences.”
– A new adult romance books

Michael Thomas’ life changed when he accepted a friendly client’s offer to stay at his winter home in Carmel, California. Michael planned to immerse himself in the artistic atmosphere of the Monterey Bay area. Maybe this is his opportunity to settle at last and to make better use of his exceptional talents as a painter, an artists romance.

Angelina Serracino, a romance widow, had yet to forgive herself for the death of her fiance, though she had no responsibility for his passing. Angelina still couldn’t shake the feeling that if maybe she had done something differently.

Review: So I Married an Anti-fan

Modern-day woman Geunyoung Lee struggles to make ends meet working as a lowly reporter for a magazine. She lives with a friend and barely scratches out her rent every month. On the other hand, male sex symbol Joon Hoo currently rides on top of the world. His movies become instant hits. Corporations clamber all over each other to pay for his product endorsements. Women adore him. His public image stays squeaky clean…that is, until one night he runs into Geunyoung at a club. Lee accidentally snaps a photo of Joon dumping a heartbroken young girl. He suddenly goes nuclear trying to protect his image, forcing Lee’s magazine to fire her. Now, despite losing her job and apartment, the intrepid young woman has taken on a new mission in life: Destroy Joon Hoo at all costs. This manhwa is based on the novel of the same title written by Eunjung Kim, and its production is partly supported by SBA Seoul Animation Center.

If you are following me here (or on my main author site) then you know that all summer long I’m sharing books that feature something about Korea.  I discovered this manhwa series awhile back, and happily read. Beautiful artwork enhances this romantic comedy.

Geunyoung is a newbie reporter. While at an event she oversees an incident with famous actor Joo Hoon.  They both jump to conclusions about the other, which  leads to some rather comedic moments. When Geunyoung is fired, she is quick to blame Joo Hoon and declares herself his anti-fan. Something the netizens don’t like. When she confronts Joo Hoon about his causing her to get fired, he decides to take a reality show gig and make her his onscreen manager. What he doesn’t expect is that he would fall in love with her.

You’ll have to read to learn more.

There is some swearing (namely the  b word), and some violence.

When Emerson finds a mermaid stranded in an isolated part of the shoreline, the truth about his past and hers will change his world forever.

A luminescent mermaid. A bookish inventor. A terrible truth.
Shallows is a clean YA fantasy novel with elements of paranormal and romance. It is the first in a series.

My Review

I had an ARC of this book for quite a long time.  I’m sorry to say it took me over a year to read it. I should not have let the next new book distract me. This is one  I would say is a must read.

This book has it all. These are characters you can identify with.

Roxbury Rating:  13+  There’s some violence and gore, and an attempted (nongraphic) rape.

Review: The Sacrifice (The Soul Summoner Book 5)

The Sacrifice“Hello, Praea.”

There’s only one being on Earth who calls Sloan Jordan by that name—her biological mother, a demon named Kasyade. So why did she answer Sloan’s best friend’s phone? When Sloan reaches Adrianne Marx’s apartment to investigate, all she finds is a half-written list of things to do before Sloan’s wedding:

1. Order booze for the reception.
2. Send the final guest count to the caterer.
3. Register for gifts.
4. Don’t forget to—

That’s where the to-do list ended. Mid-sentence with a scrawled line like Adrianne had been dragged away from the task. If Kasyade was involved in the abduction, Adrianne probably had been.

The reason? Ransom.

The price? Sloan’s unborn daughter, the most powerful angel in all of history.

But hell can’t rival the fury of an angry mother protecting her child, and until the baby is born, her incredible power is Sloan’s to wield. Now the prey becomes the predator as Sloan seeks to put an end to Kasyade forever.

My Review:

The fifth installment of The Soul Summoner by Elicia Hyder picks up where the last book left off.  And it starts with a phone call and the gut punch that Adrianne is missing.   The blurb makes you think that Sloan will be actively hunting Kasyade. The action is there, but for Sloan, she is forced to sit some of it out.   There’s plenty of page turning action, and heart rending romance packed in.  Let’s take a look at that.

(Spoiler alert.)

The love triangle: Sloan – Warren – Nathan.    Two men who both love Sloan, and are willing to die to protect her.  Warren is faced with the ultimate decision to protect his fiancee and unborn daughter.  With out getting more specific, I feel he did the right choice. Do I think his story with Sloan is over? No, I don’t.

Azrael and Adrianne:  These two have been dating.  With Kasyade being in possession of  Adrianne’s body Azrael will make the ultimate sacrifice to aide Sloan and protect her and his granddaughter. Azrael’s last words for Adrianne was really romantic.   Do I think he’s gone forever?  I don’t know. I’d like to think no, and that he’ll find Adrianne again.

Fury. What a complicated character! Her story line would make for another great read.

I would give this book four stars out of  five.   I did enjoy the story. I could connect with the characters on a very personal level.  Most of the series does have some foul language and  mild sex scenes. (Never graphic, about a PG 13 movie.) For me, this one pushed the boundaries. It was an uh oh, how do I unsee that? As a reader I don’t need to see the body’s physical reactions. We know that Warren and Sloan are intimate–she’s pregnant. They are getting married.  It was a simple line that I would have liked if my reader had it blocked out.

Roxbury Rating:  Mature 18+ for sexual situations and adult language

Review: Miss Wilton’s Waltz

miss walton's waltzSynopsis (as provided by publisher)

A follow-up to Josi S. Kilpack’s bestselling Proper Romance title The Vicar’s Daughter.

Lenora Wilton has spent her life hiding behind the keys of her beloved pianoforte and the vibrancy of her younger sister, Cassie. But Lenora is ready for a change and travels to Bath to live with her Aunt Gwen and teach music at an all-girls’ boarding school. She is different in Bath—more comfortable with herself—and enjoys the freedom and independence of her new life there.

When Lenora meets Aiden Asher, she finds herself attracted to him, but her unexpected feelings become more complicated when she learns that Catherine—Lenora’s newest and most troublesome student in the school—is Mr. Asher’s niece. Catherine is a difficult student, and Lenora works hard to make progress with the girl.

When the chemistry between Lenora and Aiden increases, they share a passionate kiss by the River Avon, and Lenora feels it is the beginning of a new forever—until she learns that Aiden has withheld an important detail about his life that changes everything.

Lenora closes her heart to him, and Aiden, caught between his obligation and his heart, must do what he can to make amends. And Lenora, after years of hiding from everyone and everything, faces a decision only she can make.

My Review:

I  noticed this title pop up on social media, so I wanted to get my hands on a copy. I had read and enjoyed The Vicar’s Daughter.

This story continues with Lenora’s story. She’s not residing in Bath with her Aunt Gwen and teaching music as a school for girl.  Lenora is also naive and  is now sneaking out dressed as a man to sit by the river at night, which has become her place of solitude.  Her false sense of security is shattered when a stranger catches her at the river. Their paths cross again at the school, and Lenora’s quiet life becomes quite a challenge.  Will she rise to it, or run away again when things become too hard?

I loved this book. You really got a sense of Lenora’s personality, and  found her admirable. I also liked Aiden and his niece Catherine, and I rooted for them to find their happy ever after.

I received an ARC.
