Book Review: So True a Love

Danger and passion collide when a plucky young woman becomes embroiled in a Bow Street investigation alongside a handsome officer.

London, 1803

As the daughter of a renowned actress, Verity Travers is a privileged lady of high society —and the last woman one would suspect of working as a private investigator. But after one case nearly costs her everything, she makes the hard decision to hang up her hat and live the uninspiring life of a gentlewoman. However, when she and her dearest friend become victims of a harrowing armed robbery, Verity finds herself swept back into the clandestine world of mystery and crime as she seeks to bring the thief to justice. There’s just one complication: the persistent and dashingly handsome Bow Street Runner Nathaniel Denning, who always seems to cross her path.

Verity is confident she could accomplish her work quickly if only Nathaniel would stay out of her way. While she appreciates his keen mind and quick wit on a case, his interference is muddling her progress—and her heart. Focusing on the task at hand becomes more and more difficult as she constantly bumps into Nathaniel, who is determined to keep her out of danger.

When the two rival investigators learn they are both pursuing the same cunning criminal, they must figure out how to navigate the delicate dance of cooperation amid a backdrop of increasing peril and an irresistible passion that sets their hearts ablaze.

My Review

I loved this book. I loved the chemistry between Verity and Nathaniel. I loved the tie into A Heart Worth Stealing, which was my favorite read last year. (Shadow Mountain has some publishing some extraordinary books, which I find refreshing.)

This book has steamy kisses. It had attraction. And a most wonderful plus in my books, no smut. This is a smut free, high tension, awesomely executed romance.

Verity is not your typical Regency era heroine. She is a private investigator, or she was at the beginning of the book. A theft and a plea from her friend Elizabeth gets her involved in a case again. On top of her romantic journey, she also has a journey about family and her relationship with her mother, a well known actress.

This book will really hit you in the feels.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Featured Book: Falling for my Bashful Boss

This romance is a Clean/Sweet Read.

My guarded, bashful boss lends a friendly hand to this damsel in distress.

I fled to Willow Creek to escape my charming but thieving ex and start a new life.

Love is the last thing on my mind, and it’s certainly not on Ethan’s radar.

He’s my new boss, a kind and bashful doctor grieving the loss of his father and a broken engagement.

But life in a small town has a way of surprising you.

A heavy snowfall destroys my roof, leaving me stranded with nowhere to go.

He offers me temporary shelter in the quaint “granny flat” behind his clinic.

As we weather the storm together, our friendship blossoms amidst the snowflakes.

Just when we start to believe that love might be possible, my past comes back to haunt me.

Willow Creek may not be the peaceful sanctuary I’d hoped for.

But I refuse to give up on my chance with the doctor who has captured my heart.

Falling for a Mermaid

Can she keep her mermaid tail a secret from the lifeguard capturing her heart?

Ella

I have a secret. Every time I come in contact with salt water, I pop a tail.

Because of that secret, my parents will hardly let me out of the house. So when my mom tells me I’m grounded, it doesn’t even faze me. She’s always busy partying on yachts, anyway. It’s not like she will know the difference if I sneak out.

Next thing I know, I’m at the beach, meeting up with a lifeguard I spent the majority of the summer crushing on. Everything about him makes me feel happy and safe. But I can’t ignore the fact that if I get too attached to him, he might discover my secret.

William

Because of my mom’s physically abusive boyfriend, I’ve been forced to leave my own home. I’ve been sleeping at the beach for the past several days.

Ella Paxton is the main girl who’s been on my mind for weeks. That’s why I’m shocked when she finds out about my situation and begs me to move into her guest house. That is, without her parents’ permission.

If you like sweet romance, then look no further! This book has lots of crush-worthy moments. It has hand-holding, flirtatious dialogue, and kissing. But you won’t find any swearing, nudity, or sex.

My thoughts:

It is getting warmer in my corner of the world, and soon there will be people and families gather at beaches and pools.

Wouldn’t it be fun to see a mermaid?

I actually have a mermaid in one of my books, although it is a small part. (I’m not saying which book.)
